PoE 2 0.3 Patch: What Is the Merchant's Tab and How Does it Work

  • This post originally appeared on posttype .

With Patch 0.3, also known as The Third Edict, Path of Exile 2 introduces Merchant's Tabs . These new stash tabs are designed specifically for asynchronous or offline trading, allowing players to list their items for sale even when they are not online. This update streamlines the previous trading system, where buyers had to contact sellers via whispers or websites and often had to wait until the sellers were online to complete a trade. Now, items can be listed and purchased through an in-game marketplace, even if the seller is offline.

    How the Merchant's Tab Works

    Activate Merchant's Tab

You need a special stash tab called Merchant's Tab. You can either buy new ones from the in-game shop or convert existing Premium Stash Tabs (that were purchased before 0.3.0) into Merchant's Tabs.

    Listing Items

You put items into the Merchant's Tab and assign them a currency amount. Sellers don't need to be online for the trade to happen. Once listed, an item becomes visible in the marketplace.

    Costs & Fees

Gold Cost: In addition to the Path of Exile 2 currency used for purchasing items , buyers are required to pay a small gold fee on top of the item price. Sellers don't pay a listing fee.

Price Changes: There's a short cooldown for changing prices or removing items once posted—this prevents abuse or price-flipping.

    Earnings

Sell-proceeds can be collected through an NPC named Ange in your hideout. There's also an Earnings tab you can open via Ange to withdraw sales gold.

    Compatibility & Limits

    - Items sold through Merchant's Tabs cannot include currency items (those remain tied to the Currency Exchange).

    - SSF (Solo Self-Found) leagues cannot use Merchant's Tabs. Premium Stash Tabs converted are not usable as Merchant Tabs in SSF.

    - Premium Quad Tabs cannot be converted.

    What's Required From Players

    1. You need a hideout and unlock the NPC Ange to facilitate the Merchant's Tab and market system.

    2. Only Premium Stash Tabs purchased before Patch 0.3.0 are eligible for free conversion into Merchant's Tabs. Those bought after 0.3.0 need to be bought outright as Merchant's Tabs.

    3. Players must manage pricing carefully due to cooldowns, because once listed, items can't be delisted or repriced immediately.

    Benefits & Potential Downsides

    Pros

No need to be online to sell items in Path of Exile 2 ; it's very convenient. This in-game marketplace makes finding items much easier and reduces dependency on third-party websites and trading through whispering or haggling.

    Cons

When buyers make purchases, they pay some gold as a fee, which creates a potential for gold sink.

Be cautious when pricing or listing items, as mistakes can cost you due to cooldowns; you won't be able to immediately correct any wrong prices.

It's important to note that converting a Premium Stash Tab into a Merchant Tab is irreversible. This means you'll lose the previous functionality of the Premium Stash for that tab, and in some cases, its status in Path of Exile 1 may also be affected.

    Conclusion

The introduction of Merchant's Tabs marks a significant step forward for Path of Exile 2's trading system, offering players greater flexibility and convenience. While there are limitations and considerations—such as cooldowns, gold fees, and irreversible conversions—the benefits largely outweigh the drawbacks. This new feature not only enhances the overall trading experience but also aligns with the game's commitment to creating a seamless and player-friendly environment.

If you're ready to embrace this new era of trading, ensure you've unlocked your hideout and NPC Ange to get started. Whether you're a seasoned trader or a casual player, Merchant's Tabs are sure to transform how you interact with Path of Exile 2's vibrant economy.
